Use Member group eligibility if you want specific members to participate in the Competition or on the contrary – if you wish for some members NOT to be eligible in the Competition participation. By default, as in the screenshot above, ‘ALL’ members are eligible to participate in a new Competition.

Member groups are NOT pre created

To be able to select other groups to be eligible to participate in Competitions, you can easily create Member Groups. Here are your creation options:

Option Nr. 1

In CompetitionLabs console navigate to Members → Members List. Here the pre-created members can be updated with member groups via CSV file upload (you can read about Member update or creation from CSV file upload here) Or manually editing each member and adding a new group. After the step is completed then in Competition creation → Step 2: Entrants in “Member group eligibility” field. Once you start typing a suggestion of groups available to you will appear.

Option Nr. 2

While creating the Competition in Step 2: Entrants in  “Member group eligibility” field you can start typing new member groups that are not registered in your system and pressing enter. By doing so, a new pop up window will appear with a suggestion to create the group in the Competition and adding the new group with a rule of or .

After the creation of the Competition and new member groups, you can now add members to by navigating to Members → Members ListHere the pre-created members can be updated with member groups via CSV file upload (you can read about Member update or creation from CSV file upload here) or manually editing each member and adding a new group.

Member groups ARE pre created

Member group eligibility guide

   MUST
The default ‘ALL’ has a  rule that means that all members can participate. Other groups that are added with a  rule mean that all members that can participate have to be in the group or groups.

OBJECTIVE: Members that have member groups registered within them “Test_group_1” and “Test_group_2” only those can participate in the Competition. Members that have only 1 of the 2 groups can not participate in the competition.

SITUATION: Here are 3 members with different member groups registered to them:

Member_1 (groups:  “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”)

Member_2 (groups:  “Test_group_1”)

Member_3 (groups:   “Test_group_2”)

OUTCOME: Only Member_1 can participate in the competition because Member_2 and Member_3 does not meet the requirements of the  rule with 2 groups of “Test_group_1” and “Test_group_2”.

   SHOULD
Adding a  rule group makes an additional field “Should match at least 1” appear where you can insert a value of how many groups a member has to be a part of to be eligible to participate in the Competition.

OBJECTIVEMembers that are part of member groups “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2″ and Test_group_3” – only those can participate in the competition. Since the value of “Should match at least 1” has been set to 2, which means that members that have 2 of any of the groups that are registered as should, can participate in the Competition.

SITUATIONHere are 4 members with different member groups registered to them:

Member_1 (groups:  “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_3”)

Member_2 (groups:  “Test_group_1”)

Member_3 (groups:   “Test_group_2”)

Member_4 (groups:  “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_3”)

OUTCOMEOnly Member_1 and Member_4 can participate in the Competition because Member_2 and Member_3 does not meet the requirements of the  rule and the value set to 2 with 1 group of “Test_group_1” or “Test_group_2”.

   MUST-NOT
Use this rule when you do NOT want specific member groups to participate in the competition.

OBJECTIVEMembers that have member groups registered in them “Test_group_1” those members can NOT participate in the competition, while members that do not have this group can participate.

SITUATIONHere are 3 members with different member groups registered to them:

Member_1 (groups:  “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”)

Member_2 (groups:  “Test_group_1”)

Member_3 (groups:   “Test_group_2”)

OUTCOMEOnly Member_3 can participate in the competition because Member_1 and Member_2 does not meet the requirements of the rule  with a group of “Test_group_1”.

Member group eligibility example with all the rules of “must“, “should” and “must-not” implemented.

OBJECTIVE:

We will create a Competition with member group eligibility rules that include 1 , 3  and 1  Member group rules. 7 members with pre-defined member groups will participate in the competition. The results are explained as followed.

SITUATION:

Member creation and grouping. We created 7 members and added specific member groups to each member.

Member_1 : “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_3”

Member_2 : “Test_group_1”

Member_3 : “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_3”

Member_4 : “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_3”, “Test_group_4”, “Test_group_5”

Member_5 : “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_3”, “Test_group_4”

Member_6 : “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_4”, “Test_group_5”

Member_7 : “Test_group_1”, “Test_group_2”, “Test_group_3”, “Test_group_4”

You are adding member groups to the Competition. Creating a Competition with member groups that can participate and not allowed to participate. In the example, 5 groups in total have been added to the rules of and :

OUTCOME:

The rules define that members that are part of a group that is a  criteria and at least 2 out of 3  groups and must not be part of a group that has a rule of . From all the members, only three members can participate. Here is a simple explanation of why some members can participate while others can not:
